Research & Evaluation

Ex-Post Evaluations

After the programme.
What still holds?

Revisit a completed programme to understand which benefits remain, what has changed and what future work can learn.

THE FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONDid the change last beyond the support?

LOOKING BEYOND CLOSE-OUTEvidence over time

Check whether the intended benefits continue, who still experiences them and where the evidence is incomplete.

Illustrative framework · the approach is agreed for each project.

A longer view

The final report
is a starting point.

A close-out record describes the position at completion. An ex-post evaluation returns to the evidence after the programme has ended.

What do we revisit?

Earlier findings, current conditions and the experiences of people affected. Look for sustained benefits, changes and unintended effects.

What helps explain the picture?

Consider ownership, resources, local capacity and wider events. Separate the programme’s contribution from other influences.

What should the evaluation leave you with?

A clear account of what lasted, the limits of the evidence and lessons for future design or follow-up support.
